Burrs on parts that contact the thread will cause skipped stitches, broken thread, jamming and numerous other problems requiring an expensive repair bill. Most of the time, service technicians will replace these parts with new rather than "saving" them by simply removing the small burrs. Many times an expensive hook, needle plate or bobbin case may be saved by removing tiny burrs rather than replacing it with new parts. These also work great to remove surface rust from parts. These tools will last for years and you will save more than the cost of the honing kit the first time you use it.
These are the tools I have used for over 30 years to save these expensive parts. The kit includes:
1. 36 inches of fine emery cloth to remove heavy burrs.
2. 1/4" X 1/4" X 3" very fine abrasive rubber stick for tiny burrs and to give the final polish to the part. The rubber actually conforms to the shape of the part being polished.
3. 36 inches of round emory cord for smoothing needle plate holes (not shown).

The common "V"
ground screwdriver tip will push up and out of the screw slot and the cheap
screwdriver tip twists off as torque is applied, resulting in a stripped
screw slot. Once the screw slot is stripped, the only "fix" is
to drill out the screw, which could result in further damage to your sewing
machine.

"hollow ground" screwdriver tip fits the screw slot and grips
more as torque is applied.
